School Decorum

School Decorum

School decorum forms the backbone of our institution's culture at Shivalik International Convent School. It encompasses the values, ethics, and behavioral standards that guide every member of our school community—students, teachers, staff, and parents alike. Our commitment to maintaining exemplary decorum ensures a harmonious, respectful, and conducive learning environment for all.

Our Core Values in Decorum

At SICS, we believe that decorum is not merely about rules and regulations; it is about cultivating character, integrity, and mutual respect. Our approach to school decorum is rooted in the following principles:

  • Respect and Dignity: We treat every individual—peers, teachers, and staff—with courtesy and consideration, recognizing the inherent dignity in each person.

  • Integrity: We uphold honesty and ethical conduct in all our actions, both within and outside the school premises.

  • Discipline: We understand that self-discipline is essential for personal growth and academic excellence.

  • Responsibility: We take ownership of our actions and their consequences, contributing positively to our community.

  • Inclusivity: We celebrate diversity and ensure that all members of our school community feel valued and welcomed.

Dress Code

Our uniform policy reflects the identity and pride of Shivalik International Convent School. Students are expected to wear their uniforms with pride and maintain neat appearance at all times.

  • Students must wear the prescribed school uniform on all working days without exception.

  • The uniform should be clean, well-ironed, and properly fitted.

  • Black leather shoes and appropriate socks must be worn.

  • Hair should be neatly groomed; long hair must be tied back in a braid or ponytail.

  • Ornaments should be minimal and tasteful—only simple earrings are permitted for girls.

  • No nail paint, mehendi, or excessive jewelry is allowed.

  • Sports uniforms are mandatory during scheduled PT classes.

Classroom Conduct

The classroom is a space dedicated to learning and intellectual growth. We expect the highest standards of conduct from our students:

  • Students must arrive on time for all classes and be seated before the bell rings.

  • Mobile phones, smartwatches, and unauthorized electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside the classroom.

  • Students should raise their hands and seek permission before speaking.

  • Attentive listening and active participation in discussions are encouraged.

  • No eating, drinking, or chewing gum is permitted during class hours.

  • Students must maintain their desks and the classroom in a clean and organized manner.

  • Respect for teachers and peer students is non-negotiable.

  • Completing and submitting assignments on time is mandatory.

Assembly and Gatherings

School assemblies are an important part of our institutional life, fostering a sense of community and shared values.

  • All students must attend morning assembly unless medically excused.

  • Students must stand in straight lines, maintain silence, and listen attentively.

  • The National Anthem and school songs must be sung with reverence and enthusiasm.

  • Fidgeting, chatting, or distraction during assembly is not permitted.

  • All special gatherings and events require the same level of decorum as regular assemblies.

Behavior in Common Areas

Our school premises include corridors, playgrounds, dining areas, and recreational spaces. We expect dignified and respectful behavior in all these areas:

  • Students must move quietly and orderly through corridors and hallways.

  • The playground is a space for healthy recreation; rough play and bullying are strictly forbidden.

  • In the dining area, students must maintain cleanliness, queue properly, and dispose of waste responsibly.

  • Vandalism of school property or furniture is a serious offense and will be dealt with accordingly.

  • Students must respect the personal space and belongings of others.

Language and Communication

The language we use reflects our character and respect for others. We promote courteous and appropriate communication:

  • Students must address teachers and senior staff respectfully using appropriate titles.

  • Foul language, slurs, or disrespectful remarks towards any individual are strictly prohibited.

  • Gossip, spreading rumors, or engaging in character assassination is discouraged.

  • Cyberbullying through social media or other digital platforms is a serious violation and will be addressed.

  • Constructive criticism and honest feedback are welcomed; destructive comments are not.

Attendance and Punctuality

Regular attendance and punctuality are fundamental to academic success and demonstrate respect for the school's schedule:

  • Students are expected to maintain 85% or above attendance in a session.

  • Arrival at school must be at least 10 minutes before the start of the first period.

  • Late arrivals may result in restriction from entering the classroom without valid reasons.

  • Parents must inform the school office of any absence in advance, if possible.

  • Medical certificates are required for absences exceeding three consecutive days.

Academic Integrity

Honesty and integrity in academic work form the cornerstone of our educational philosophy:

  • Plagiarism, copying, or submitting another's work as one's own is a serious offense.

  • Cheating during examinations or assessments will not be tolerated.

  • Students must acknowledge sources and citations in written work.

  • Any instance of academic dishonesty may result in severe consequences, including suspension.

Use of Technology

In our increasingly digital world, we encourage responsible and ethical use of technology:

  • Mobile phones and unauthorized electronic devices are not permitted during school hours.

  • Computer labs and digital resources are for academic purposes only.

  • Students must respect the intellectual property rights and privacy of others online.

  • Accessing inappropriate content or websites is strictly forbidden.

  • Social media usage should reflect the values and reputation of SICS.

Extracurricular Activities

Participation in clubs, sports, and cultural activities enriches the student experience. We expect the same standards of decorum in these spaces:

  • Students must follow the instructions of teachers and activity coordinators.

  • Sportsmanship, fair play, and respect for opponents are paramount.

  • Equipment and materials provided for activities must be used responsibly.

  • Attendance at scheduled practices and events demonstrates commitment and respect.

Parent and Visitor Conduct

We extend our decorum standards to parents, guardians, and visitors who enter our campus:

  • All visitors must report to the office and wear an identification badge.

  • Parents are expected to communicate respectfully with teachers and staff.

  • Unannounced visits to classrooms are discouraged during class hours.

  • Parents must adhere to the school's policies regarding student pick-up and drop-off.
